Welcome in Jesus’ name!
Community Lutheran is known for being a warm and friendly church where all are welcome. The words most often used to describe us are “community” or “family.” God has made us all family in Jesus Christ. While we are diverse in many ways, we are united as one through faith in Christ. We are far from flawless but are learning to love God and love people as Jesus did. We look forward to your visit!
Who we are
- a welcoming community where all people are embraced with the love of Christ
- a genuine, warm, and caring church family who take time for each other
- a community of disciples who find our lives in Christ and reach out with God’s love
- a community of faith who together believe, teach, and proclaim that God reveals his mercy and truth through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ – God forgives you and declares you righteous, and you are!
Our Mission
The mission of Community Lutheran is captured in our logo: We are “Community in Christ – Reaching out.” In Christ we find true community. Nothing else in this world is stronger than that bond. In fact, most of what we see in this world divides rather than unifies. But as we gather in this church, we find our life in Christ and are filled with a love that we can’t contain. We are called through the Gospel, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and sent out each week to all those God has placed in our lives to share his amazing, life-giving love.
Why Community Lutheran Church?
Community Lutheran Church is a Christ-centered, mission-focused congregation connected to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Rooted in our neighborhood and community we strive to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ in both word and deed. Growing deeper spiritually here at CLC means that we are both gathered and sent. We gather around God’s Word and Sacrament in worship and then are sent out to love and serve our neighbors. Growing in God’s grace and love, answering God’s call to make disciples, and living in the promise of God’s forgiveness are what you will experience by connecting to this community of Christ followers. We’d love to meet you!
About the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
The ELCA is one of the largest Christian denominations in the United States, with nearly 3.3 million members in more than 8,900 worshiping communities across the 50 states and in the Caribbean region. Known as the church of “God’s work. Our hands,” the ELCA emphasizes the saving grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ, unity among Christians, and service in the world. The ELCA’s roots are in the writings of the German church reformer Martin Luther and the Lutheran Confessions (see The Augsburg Confession here).
“We are church, we are Lutheran, we are church together, we are church for the sake of the world.”
— Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton.
This is Christ’s church.
There is a place for you here.
We are the church that shares a living, daring confidence in God’s grace. Liberated by our faith, we embrace you as a whole person–questions, complexities and all. Join us as we do God’s work in Christ’s name for the life of the world.
Our Beliefs
- We believe in the Triune God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
- We believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, the Word of God incarnate.
- We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the written and inspired Word of God and the authoritative source and norm of our proclamation, faith, and life.
- We are a welcoming community where all people are embraced with the love of Christ.
- We are a community of faith who together believe, teach, and proclaim that the Word of God reveals his loving mercy through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ — trusting in Christ, God forgives you and declares you righteous, and you are!
- We believe that the church is a people created by God in Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit, called and sent to bear witness to God’s creative, redeeming, and sanctifying activity in the world.
- We are a church that believes God is calling us into the world — together. We work through our congregations, synods and partners, and the ELCA churchwide ministries. Together, we achieve things on a scale and scope that we could never do alone.
- We are a church that is deeply rooted — and always being made new. Our roots are in Scripture, tradition and the Lutheran Confessions, as well as in the rich histories of our congregations. These roots are an ongoing source of nourishment; they enable us to be a church guided by the Holy Spirit that is both resilient and always being reformed.
Our Values
Worship: our authentic response to the living God
Word: the Bible is the inspired Word of God and through God’s Word our sinful nature is crucified and we are made alive in Christ
Sacraments: the means by which God gives forgiveness, new life, and salvation
Witness: we represent Christ wherever we go
Prayer: a dynamic, ongoing and life-changing conversation with the living God
People: all people matter to God and therefore matter to us
Families: the primary place God nurtures the faith of each generation — supported each step of the way by the church
What are the worship services like?
Sunday worship services include beautiful music and faithful Gospel preaching that applies to daily life.
What do I wear?
Whatever is comfortable for you is welcome—there is no dress code. Whatever we wear we all gather to worship God.
Are children welcome?
Children are always welcome at all worship services. We love having children present and provide a kids time during our worship service.
Is there a Nursery?
A staffed nursery is available throughout the morning for both worship services as well as during the Sunday school hour. It is open to all who remain on campus, during worship. Excellent nursery care is provided by trained and screened staff members. As you leave the sanctuary turn left and follow the walkway to the classroom with the blue door in the preschool area of our campus.
Will I be expected to give money?
As our guest you are not expected to give money. The ministry of Community Lutheran Church is provided by the gifts and offerings of its members. Please allow us to offer this worship service as our gift to you.
Who may receive Holy Communion?
The sacrament of Holy Communion is offered every week at both worship services. Holy Communion is open to all who have been baptized and who believe Jesus Christ is present in the bread and wine, offering forgiveness of sin, life, and salvation. It is not necessary to be a member of the church or a certain age to receive Holy Communion.
